Transplanting large trees ... an introduction
Firstly, before we go into the ins and outs of how to transplant large trees I want to speak a bit about why people would want to move a tree. Trees can be moved within the context of Clare forestry or a person may want to have a tree transplanted to their own back garden or transplanted away. Because of the way that we live our lives nowadays, everything seems to be moving so fast and people want everything now, they don't want to wait until tomorrow if they don't have to.
Much of the time, man has provided plenty of time saving devices in the products that we create. Mother nature does not really want to play our game where this is concerned. But we have developed techniques for moving large trees so that we can speed up time to a certain extent.
There are several reasons why there is a demand for tree transplantations, and here at Forestry Ireland we can supply your demands with several different types of tree. First, to ask for a mature tree to be transplanted is almost impossible. Once a tree has reached its full maturity, it is unsuitable for transportation. The highest weight of the tree that should be transplanted is roughly 10 tones in weight and about 16 meters high. These trees will need to have a proper root ball in order to provide satisfactory transplantation. These semi-mature trees are often known as instant trees, I think this reflects the aspirations that we have in modern life. So, there are many different types of trees that can be transplanted and there are techniques that had to be applied vigorously when transplanting trees not only in the transportation between A to B, but also in preparing the land for the imminent arrival of the transplanted tree, preparing the root ball carefully so that the least amount of damage will be done during the transportation, the actual lifting and transporting, the subsequent replanting, and the aftercare treatment that the transplanted tree is going to receive once it has arrived on site.
